About Germantown 

Germantown is a village in Washington County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 18,260 at the 2000 census. The village is larger than and encloses the Town of Germantown. In July 2007 Germantown was ranked the 30th most appealing city, town, or village of the United States to live in.

The town is unique in that all of the town meetings are held in the town clerk's kitchen. The chairman sits close to the door and the treasurer spreads out on the kitchen counter.

Germantown History

The town of Germantown used to incorporate the entire area now included in the village of Germantown. In 1964, in order to prevent annexation by the city of Milwaukee, the town allowed the village to annex most of its territory. Further annexations in 1965 and 1976 left it at its current size.
